Lauren is the author of the collection, This Business of Wisdom (West End Press, 2010).
In addition to her book, Lauren has released a CD of her poetic fragments based on collected women’s stories, entitled “I Am and You Are.” This “audio artwork,” was created to play in the background of her exhibit, “Flinch: A Study of Your Self.”
Her poems were originally written to accompany her artwork, but have since taken on a life of their own. More than 100 poems have been published in journals and anthologies.
She has performed at libraries, theaters, house concerts, cafés, art centers and outdoors — frequently in collaboration with jazz and experimental musicians.
She juggles her own creative pursuits with teaching creative writing workshops through Santa Fe Community College, the Southwest Literary Center, the O’Keeffe Museum’s Art and Leadership Program, and other venues around Santa Fe. She also tutors students to improve basic English skills.
In 2006, Lauren received a New Mexico Discovery Award by Recursos, a division of the Southwest Literary Center.
In 2010, she was invited to take part in a Theaterwork (Santa Fe, NM) Poetry Intensive Fellowship, and subsequently joined Theaterwork’s permanent company of poets to write and perform material on the themes of the theater company’s yearly offerings.
She guest edited the March/April 2011 issue of World Literature Today devoted to the theme of jazz poetry, a subject that continues to capture her attention.
“It was so elemental…
…like perfect little moments or molecules. There is something so unique about each poem.
As I was listening, I was hoping she was
very prolific. I want to hear everything she does.”
—David Linke
“She can be alternately, as serious…
…as a heart attack, or as humorous as a vaudevillian. Every face seems to hang on every word.”
—Richard Atkinson
